Jack’s Angles Foundation is a 501(c)3 Community Benefit Organization
Jack’s Angels Foundation is a local 501(c)3 charitable organization inspired by the life of James-William “Jack” Demeter, (8/30/08—7/30/12), who was diagnosed at age 3 with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma, or DIPG, succumbing to the disease 9 months later. Although marginalized as a rare disease, like all childhood cancers, DIPG is a common pediatric brain tumor, responsible for roughly 12% incidence out of some 170+ varieties. It is among the most feared, having no survivors and being responsible for 80% of pediatric brain tumor deaths annually. There has been no progress in the treatment of DIPG for over 35 years. Most of the high-profile cases of pediatric cancer in the news in 2015 have been DIPG children, such as Lauren Hill and AJ Peterson.
Jack’s Angels is committed to raising awareness
for DIPG and pediatric brain tumors, the leading cause of cancer-related death in children, yet one of the least-funded areas of cancer research. Only 4% of our National Budget for Cancer Research benefits pediatric research. Jack’s Angels began the “For Jack” DIPG research fund at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and encourages Southern California to “Help Jack Count to a Million!” for this fund.
